June is typically the lowest point of the slow season but looking at the full calendar for the month and some fairly full venues around Bangkok some nights you might not have known that! But it is all up from here, and it gets off to a good start in July with an estimated 20,000 people coming to town for the 15th International AIDS Conference - the biggest AIDS conference ever, and the biggest conference ever to come to Bangkok!

It never rains but it pours here - the fun that is, not the real rain! In between the occasional showers there has been so much going on in Silom Soi 4 it is impossible to keep up - parties every week this month and special promotions to keep everybody happy! What's pouring in Pattaya is money: into the Pattaya Gay Festival charity coffers as they continue their fundraising as only the Pattayan's know how!

Saturday, March 20, 2004
With the hearts and flowers of Valentine's Day gone back in storage for another year, Bangkok and Pattaya both got into a festival mood with major events by Bangkok Pride (handing over the donations to its charities) and Pattaya Gay Festival (starting their fundraising with a bang). Phuket showed us all how to have fun with Beach Road and the Paradise complex full of music and colour for the Phuket Gay Festival 2004 earlier this month, with Bangkok and Pattaya making do admirably with Chinese New Year. Then just as everyone is gearing up for Valentine's Day the government throws a small bucket of semi-cold water on things with their new closing time regulations - but it was nothing like the huge bucket of freezing water that was the worst case outcome suggested by some in the Interior Ministry!

As Phuket gears up for its 2004 gay pride festival at the end of January Bangkok and Pattaya have already begun planning for their 2004 gay festival events later this year and everyone else is gearing up for Chinese New Year. Meanwhile it is local politics at its best with a proposal for condoms for everyone entering the country (but still not for everyone entering gay saunas) and a (possibly only temporary) reprieve from the threatened 10:00PM closing time for all entertainment venues!
