dreaded ned's understands your concerns about privacy, and has created this privacy statement in order to demonstrate our firm commitment to helping you to protect your privacy. This statement outlines the information that is collected and how it is used here at dreaded ned's.

Information Automatically Logged

Your IP address, browser type, referrer page (which may include terms entered into a search engine or other parameters), date, time, and file requested are automatically logged by our server every time a page or graphic is requested by your browser. We use this information to help diagnose problems with our server and to administer our web site. This includes generating statistics on pages visited, regions visitors come from, sites that refer visitors to ned's and even detailed analysis of some visitors' paths through our site. This information is used to plan improvements to dreaded ned's and to help to identify and resolve problems.

The raw server logs and statistics generated from them are stored on computers not usually accessible from the World Wide Web. Information from the raw logs, including IP addresses, may be revealed to third parties investigating malicious or illegal use of the facilities provided on the site. Aggregate statistical data, which does not include IP address or other identifying information, are distributed openly on the web site and to advertisers, etc.

In addition to the information logged by the server, your IP address, date and/or time and information entered by you is automatically logged in control files when you fill in a form, post a personal ad, post a message in a forum or send a postcard. This information is stored on computers not normally accessible from the World Wide Web or is automatically emailed to the webmaster and is used to monitor and control operation of these features.

Cookies

Our site optionally uses cookies to manage login, but it is not required that you accept cookies to access any section of the site. Two type of cookies are used, a session cookie and a permanent cookie.

The optional session cookie, which is only temporary and is removed from your computer when you exit from your browser, is used to store a unique session key so the system can identify you and keep your temporary option settings as you travel about the site. The session key does not track what pages you visit or any information you enter, except for option settings. These option settings are lost when you leave the site or exit your browser - if you want to keep your option setting permanently you need to log in then any settings are saved on our server for when you next log in. If you do not accept the session cookie, the session key is added to the URLs you visit on the site. When you leave the site or exit from your browser the session key expires and the option settings are discarded.

A permanent cookie is optionally set if you request it to automatically log you in each time you visit the site. This cookie stores your login name and password so you do not have to enter it each time. You can set or clear this cookie using the profile option in the login box. You should not set this cookie if you are not the only person that uses the computer to access this site.

Advertisers

We use an outside ad company to display some of the ads on our site. These ads may contain cookies. Unlike the cookies we use in other parts of our web site, cookies received with banner ads are collected by the ad company and we do not have access to this information.

We do not currently use cookies to control or monitor other ads displayed on our site, but log files of ads displayed are generated automatically by the ad server software but this does not include any personal identifying information about the site visitor that the ad is displayed to.

Registration Form

Our registration form does not ask for any personal information, just your email address and a name that you wish to use on our site. This done not have to be your real name.

Mailing List Data

The dreaded ned's mailing list is 100% double opt-in and a new member must respond to a confirmation email before they are added to the mailing list. Members can unsubscribe at any time by following the directions in the emails or by visiting the home page for the mailing list.

The mailing list database is currently maintained using a program provided by a third party, currently khsnet, on servers maintained by the same third party. This information is not used by the third party, and is only used by dreaded ned's to distribute the requested information to the mailing list members. dreaded ned and khsnet do not support spamming or selling of email lists.

The dreaded ned's gay bookshop is operated in conjunction with Amazon. dreaded ned's provides book reviews and other original content, but the actual sales information, including credit card or delivery details, and the whole sales process is managed by Amazon. dreaded ned's receives summary sales information only, no identifying customer information. dreaded ned does receive commission an sales by Amazon to customers referred by dreaded ned.
